Picture Books

I'm a teacher at heart, and what can I say? I love picture books. You know the ones I'm thinking about...they have just a few words on each page and beautiful illustrations. Many times they are called children's books, but I would say that they are just as much for adults too. A dear friend at work who might have more picture books than I do, shared some of her favorites that are about adoption. I read the first today. Jin Woo is written by Eve Bunting and illustrated Chris Soentpiet. The story is touching, the paintings that serve as the illustrations are lovely, and adoption is close to the illustrator's heart. Chris Soentpiet is a Korean American who was adopted with his sister by an American family when he was 8 years old.

This book tells the story of a boy who is about to become a big brother when his family adopts a little boy from Korea. Needless to say, it is a hard transition from only child to big brother, but when the family sticks together, he finds room in his heart for an addition to the family. It is a touching story that shows how the power of love is limitless. A quick read that is well worth it!
Stay tuned for more stories!
