Fun New Toy for Mom & Dad

One of the things Kathy and I have enjoyed since we have been home, has been taking pictures of Mikayla.  She is extremely photogenic and takes some great pictures.  I took a photography class in high school and learned all sorts of tips and tricks to make pictures look professional.  Unfortunately our trusty point and shoot digital camera of 5 years could only do so much when it came to creatively photographing our daughter.  The point and shoot did a great job of capturing pictures on vacation and occasionally we'd catch her with the smile we were looking for, but most of the time we were a few seconds too late.

After saving some Christmas and birthday money, we decided to take the plunge and get a digital single lens reflex (DSLR) camera.  One thing Kathy wished for was to be able to take a picture indoors without the use of a flash.  So...using some of the photography knowledge I learned, I looked around for special lens to use indoors.  I am not going to bore you with all the details on what type of lens we got or how it works (even though I would love to), but I bought one that does the trick.

I am brushing up on my photography skills and will be passing them on to Kathy so we can photograph Mikayla with some artistic and hopefully professional results.  Here is one of the pictures we took indoors without the flash.

  2. Hi, we are adopting from Ethiopia too. We know the Mummerts- just an online relationship! ;) We just returned from Ethiopia a few days ago for our court trip. Anyways...we did the same thing. We got the Canon Rebel T2i and we are struggling to learn how to use it the best and still learning. We also got a 50mm lens to use indoors. Wondering if that is what you got for indoors as well? Because the one thing we don't appreciate about the 50mm is that we have to back up so far in order to capture what we want. It's so magnified. Is there a better lens for indoors or do you have any suggestions? Thanks! Amanda
